WICHITA, KS – Less than 24 hours after a road win in Salina, the Jets returned home Saturday afternoon to take on the Bethel Threshers. Newman came out on the attack early and did not let up as they completed a 3-0 sweep over the Threshers. The Jets took sets 1-3 by a scores of (25-15) (25-18) (25-11).
Jose Lugo's team hit a whopping .393 to Bethel's .068 hitting percentage. The Jets defensive discipline and crisp passing allowed for execution from their big swingers. 7 Newman players hit over the .300 mark against the Threshers.
Bethel was unable to string together a run to surmount the Jets firepower. The offensive push for Newman was led by
Salome Romp,
Jada Key,
Riley Daugherty and
Imani Jones. The team tallied 7 blocks and had 33 digs.
Newman is off to a 2-0 start and looks hungry as a group.
Jose Lugo added
Tanner Serowski as an assistant coach this year and the two are looking to continue guiding the team through their early success in non-conference play.
