EDMOND, Okla. – Newman traveled to Edmond, Oklahoma Monday night. Squaring off against UCO for the first time this season, Newman looked to compete for their first MIAA win in the 2021-22 campaign. UCO took down the Jets 87-66.
The Jets fall to 3-9 (0-7 MIAA) on the season with the loss. UCO advances to 11-2 (6-1 MIAA) with the win.
Newman played the Bronchos to a tightly contested first half. The Jets trailed just 35-32 after one.
The second half opened with determined play from the Jets.
David Javorsky converted the
and one to give the Jets a 40-39 lead. Newman led again 42-41 when
DeAndre Johnson layed in an easy one with 15:45 remaining.
From that point on, a scoring burst from the Bronchos helped bury the Jets 87-66.
Despite 21 points from
Israel Barnes and 16 from
Ian Lee, the Jets were unable to contend with the Bronchos cascade of points in the latter part of the second half.
DeAndre Johnson collected 14 boards to lead the Jets on the glass.
Up next, the Jets are home against Rogers State Thursday at 7:30 PM. This will be Newman's first home game of 2022.
