Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Jets lose to #19 RSU in Senior Day matchup

WICHITA – The Jets Men's soccer team celebrated their senior day on Saturday as they took on the #19 ranked Rogers State University Hillcats (9-3-6) in the final match of the 2022 season. Seniors Joao Moreira, Diego Feitosa, and Matthew Roberts were honored alongside Hunter Clark for their time at Newman before the match. RSU would end up taking the win 5-0, as the Jets season came to a close.

First Half

Rogers State would show off why they were ranked from the start, forcing the Jets into some risky defensive situations and scoring in the 8th minute of the game.  Newman would be woken up by this however, and they began to fight hard, going back and forth with RSU over possession for the next 24 minutes, but being unable to create any chances for themselves. RSU would again score in the 32nd minute, spoiling any momentum the Jets were gaining and taking a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

Second Half

After some more back and forth play to begin the next half, Felix Tellez Ramirez would fire the first shot nine minutes into the half, but the RSU keeper would scoop it up as the ball traveled to the center of the net. RSU would add to their lead shortly after as they began a run of three goals in just over ten minutes, scoring first in the 58th minute. The five goal deficit would stand, as the Jets were held scoreless for the rest of the match and fell 5-0.

Newman and the Jets Men's soccer program would like to send out our thanks to everyone of our supporters and players for another season of soccer. We would also especially like to thank Diego Feitosa, Matthew Roberts, Joao Moreira, and Hunter Clark for everything that they've done for the program.
