EDMOND, Okla. – Women's Basketball kicked off a weekend in Oklahoma at the UCO Classic Friday night with a 71-62 win over Oklahoma Christian. The game saw four different Jets reach double digit scoring, as well as two double-double performances coming from
Britney Ho and
Kyra Grimshaw.
Despite a low scoring and closely contested first half, the Jets held on to a three point lead thanks to a combination of Ho's 14 points in the first half and the Jets stout defense. They would force Oklahoma Christian into shooting 7-35 from the field in the first half, and wouldn't allow more than four makes in a quarter until the end of the game.
The third quarter would start out essentially the same as the first two, with Newman again holding the Eagles to a poor shooting performance. The second half would see three more Jets break the 10 point barrier to back up Ho and give them command of the game, at one point leading by as much as 21 points.
Despite a fourth quarter surge led by the Eagles' Trinity Dobbs and Natalie Smith, the Jets would hold out strong and bag themselves a nine point victory.
Newman defended the three ball especially well all game long, holding Oklahoma Christian to just 12.5% shooting from behind the arc and not allowing a single three in the second and third quarters.
Britney Ho and
Kyra Grimshaw each put up a double-double, with Ho recording 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Grimshaw putting up 11 and 11 on 66.7% shooting
