Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Newman & K-State square off in lone tune up for the Jets

Nicole Ohlde-Johnson returns to Bramlage Coliseum as Associate Head Coach for Newman Women's Basketball

MANHATTAN, Kan. - With just one week until the start of the regular season, Newman (MIAA) travelled to Kansas State (Big 12) for an exhibition tilt. The Friday night tilt saw the Jets and Wildcats tuning up for their upcoming 2022-23 campaigns.

Friday night's matchup also served as a homecoming for K-State alum and Newman Associate Head Coach Nicole Ohlde-Johnson. The former Wildcat All-American and 2016 K-State Hall of Fame inductee returned to Bramlage Coliseum, but this time sporting navy and red, not the home purple and white.

Play got under way with an early 7-0 run by K-State. The Newman offense started clicking after the media timeout as the Jets rattled home two three pointers by Monica Redondo and Britney Ho. Ho's three brought the game within 8.

K-State immediately answered with a three from Emilee Ebert. The Wildcats did not break stride the rest of the game, scoring at a 50.6% clip. The wealth of offensive efficiency was accompanied by 62 points in the paint. 4 Wildcats finished in double figures. The offense was spearheaded by Gabby Gregory and Serena Sundell who finished with 21 and 19 respectively.

Despite only accumulating 15 minutes, Britney Ho finished with a Jet best 13 points on 6-12 shooting. Ho was trailed by graduate transfer Maddie Spagnola who poured in 11 points while collecting 6 rebounds. 6 rebounds was good enough to lead all Jets. Amiya Josie finished with 5 boards.

All 17 active Jets saw playing time in the game. The Friday night exhibition serves as the Jets only exhibition tune up prior to beginning their 2nd year under Drew Johnson.

The Newman season tips-off Friday, November 11th for a Veteran's Day battle at Wayne State (NE). Game time is set for 4 PM.
