Box Score MARYVILLE, Mo. – Volleyball hit the road for their final match of the season Friday night as they took on the MIAA regular season champions, Northwest Missouri State. The Bearcats came into the Friday night showdown ranked #10 in the most recent AVCA poll.
Newman went into their first timeout down 12-6 as the Bearcats front had 4 blocks already as NW's Kirchhoefer and Brussels had 2 blocks each just 14 points into the match. The Bearcats took set 1 by a score of 25-11.
Newman jumped out to a 4-3 lead in set 2 as
Hannah Brisco had back to back aces and Nat Meyer's block gave the Jets their first lead of the match.
NW went on a 10-1 run to take the momentum away from NU in set 2 and took the 2nd set 25-14. Newman struggled to block the Bearcat attack.
Northwest didn't make it any easier in set 3 as they showed why they were a top 10 nationally ranked team. The Jets couldn't find any answers to the NW offensive attack as the Bearcats went on runs and pushed themselves further away from the Jets, making their lead to double digits at 19-9 and eventually winning the set 25-18 , not before the Jets gave the Bearcats a scare late in the set after a 5-0 run to cause a NW timeout.
Newman finishes the season 8-22 and 3-17 in the MIAA. They were outhit .093 to .345.
