WICHITA - Men's Basketball (4-6) (0-4) wrapped up their first in-conference home stretch of the season on Saturday facing off against the Missouri Southern State University Lions (5-5) (1-3). It was a tough matchup for the Jets with MSSU shooting from a high percentage from the field and making it challenging to play catchup, eventually downing the Jets 100-66.
The game opened up with MSSU jumping out to a 14-5 lead that Newman was unable to recover from as the game went on. The Lions shot 52% from three on the day, making any attempt to close the gap near impossible with that advantage. It didn't help that the Jets were also held to a poor shooting performance as well, going a combined 4-20 from behind the arc and shooting 36% from the field.Â
Stevie Smith led Newman in scoring and rebounds for the night, putting up 18 with five rebounds and two steals.
Thomas Zevgaras and Stevie Strong also reached double digit figures, each putting up 12.
The Jets are back in action next Friday, December 16th at 7PM when they'll take on Nebraska Kearney on the road.Â
