Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Jets fall in final game of 2022 despite 3 Jets finishing with double digit scoring

Stevie Strong finishes with 23 in loss to ESU

WICHITA- Men's basketball ended 2022 with a visit from No. 20 Emporia State as the Jets looked to end 2022 on a high note and upset the Hornets in the final home game of 2022.

The Jets got off to a hot start but it'd be the Stingers who would have the last laugh and finish 2022 with a dominating performance after a slow start which saw Newman take a 7-0 lead early, causing ESU to scramble and make a wave sub early.

That wave sub worked as Emporia State would find themselves and take a 13-11 lead 5 minutes into the game and hold the lead the rest of the game.

Newman wouldn't make it easy for the Hornets in the first half with Stevie Strong's parking lot 3's would find the net and keep the Jets in it to go into the half 49-37. Strong would end the game with 23.

The Hornets would find an answer and keep Stevie from getting hot again in the 2nd half and would cruise to an 89-64 victory.

Emporia State shot 53.6% from the field behind 4 Hornets in double digits with Alijah Comithier leading the way with 16.

The Hornets extend their win streak over Newman to 5 despite double digit scoring from 3 different Jets.

Newman (5-8, 1-6) will look to get back on track as they will head back on the road to face Rogers State on Thursday, January 5th and Northeastern State on Saturday, January 7th.
