Second half surge lifts Pitt State past Newman

Britney Ho leads the Jets with 24 points in Newman's 81-58 loss

WICHITA – Newman Women's Basketball opened up their home MIAA schedule with a visit from Pitt State with the Jets looking to get back into the win column and move to 2-1 in MIAA play while Pitt State looked to improve to 3-1 in MIAA play.
 
It would be the Gorillas who would come out on top 81-58 in tonight's matchup.
 
Pitt State would outshoot the Jets 46.7% to to 41.4% with Tristan Gregg leading the way for PSU with 17 points, 12 coming from behind the arc.
 
Newman led after the first quarter 17-15 but the PSU defense held the Jets to only 9 points in the 2nd half to roll into the break up 31-26. The Jets would double their 2nd quarter points in the 3rd but the Gorilla's offense got hot late and would add on to their lead before taking full control of the game in the 4th.
 
Britney Ho was 1 point away from matching her career high, finishing with 24 points on 55% shooting from the field.  The senior continued her impressive season by bumping her PPG to 19.8 and earning her 5th 20+ point game this season.
 
Ho was the lone Jet in double digit scoring on the night.
 
Maddie Spagnola led the Jets in assists with 5.
 
Newman (4-4, 1-2) will have a tough test ahead of them when they return to Fugate Gymnasium on Saturday as the #4/2 ranked Missouri Southern Lions will take on the Jets in a matchup set for 1 o'clock.
