ALVA, Okla. – Newman's trip to Alva, Oklahoma to take on the Northwestern Oklahoma State ended in heartbreak. The Jets dropped the first game 13-5 and lost a tough second game, on a walkoff homerun by the Rangers, 17-16.
Game 1:
The Jets and Rangers traded runs through the first 4 frames. After three and a half innings, the Jets trailed 6-5 after adding a run on a
Lindsay Mayo single.
In the bottom half of the 4
th the Ranger offense started an onslaught of runs, adding 4 in that frame and another three in the bottom of the 5
th. NWOSU escaped the first game with an 8 run difference to end the game after 5 complete.
Taylor Ullery finished 2-2 with a double and 3 RBI.
Madison Canez hit her second homerun of the young season as well.
Anna Veltien picked up her first loss of the season and falls to 1-1 after going just 1.2 innings and giving up 5 earned runs.
Game 2:
Both offenses exploded in the second game. There was a combined 33 runs in the 7 inning contest.
The lead traded hands multiple times and in swings. The lead changed hand 7 times and was tied at 6 other points. Both teams led by as many as 5 runs.
Gianni Navarro boosted the Newman offense with go ahead singles in the fifth and sixth innings. Navarro finished 4-5 with 3 RBI.
Anissa Ramos went 2-5 with a homerun and 4 RBI.
Madison Dewitt earned the loss as the Rangers walked it off in the bottom of the 7
th with a two run home run.
Up next for the Jets is the Emporia State Tournament. Newman will play 6 games over 3 days in Emporia, beginning Friday.
