WICHITA, Kan. – Newman and Concordia-St. Paul completed their 4-game series with a double header on Monday afternoon. Yesterday, Newman struggled to open the series as CSP took Game 1 20-1, but the Jets responded in the next game with a 4-2 win. Monday was all Newman and long balls ruled the day. Newman used 7 home runs en route to a day two sweep and series victory with wins, 13-11 and 8-5.
Game 1
The Jets and Golden Bears traded big innings early in game one as the Jets hung a 6 spot in the bottom of the second to take a 6-2 lead. CSP starter, Dahlberg walked in a run before yielding a bases clearing double smashed by
Zack Stewart into the gap after a controversial foul tip call. Stewart was followed up two batters later by
Carson Hawks who crushed a ball into deep center.
CSP hung a 5 spot without Newman starter
Garrett VandeVenter allowing a single earned run in that frame.
Trailing 7-6, Newman responded with two two-run innings to reclaim the lead.
Hayden VanDePol smashed a 2-run bomb in the bottom of the 4
th to make it 10-7.

th inning stretch.

VandeVenter earned his second win on the season after a solid performance of 5 innings 4 hits 2 earned runs and 5 strikeouts.
Game 2

Tyler Push could not relate to what the Bears were going through. In the second inning Push already had 2 home runs and three RBI's. The second of his two home runs was a no doubt missile that had the Fremont, Nebraska native and his teammates electrified. The same home run later sparked some fireworks as Push was hit by the first thrown by Holcomb in his third plate appearance.
In the top of the third,
Zack Hargrove hit a bases clearing double giving him three RBI's on the day, and just after that
Jake Angelico crushed a two run bomb over the right field wall. Angelico leads the Jets with a .441 batting average.
CSP did not go down without a fight, in the top of the seventh, Wolf hit a grand slam making the game just a three run margin.
Ian Lecki regrouped and shut the door on any hopes and dreams of a split by striking out the next two hitters looking and rolling a ground ball. Finke earned his, tied for team lead, third win on the season.
