WICHITA, Kan. – Newman hosted Lincoln on Homecoming night Thursday evening. The Jets fed off the energy radiating through Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets picked up their first MIAA win on the campaign with a 78-64 thumping of the Lincoln Blue Tigers.
Newman is now 3-24 (1-20 MIAA) with the Homecoming night win. Lincoln drops to 5-22 (1-20 MIAA) with the loss.
Lincoln struggled to get anything going as they trailed 14 at the half. Hya Haywood scored 22 points of the bench, but she was the only Blue Tiger who scored efficiently.
Newman used a mixture of rotations and defenses to slow the rest of the LU offense down. All the while the Jets dominated the glass with a 39-22 rebound advantage.
On the offensive end, the Jets harassed the Blue Tigers with a 34 point attack inside the painted area.
Britney Ho scored 18 points with 6 rebounds.
Carissa Beck was money from deep. Beck knocked down 6 threes on her way to 20 points.
Sydney Nilles nearly captured a triple-double with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. All of which were season highs for the Sophomore Point Guard.
Up next is one final go for the 2021-22 campaign with a matchup against the Pittsburg State Gorillas. On Saturday, the Newman Jets Women's Basketball program will honor their lone senior on the campaign,
Makayla Hayes. Tipoff is set for 1:30 PM with Basketball Senior Day to occur after the Women's Game before Men's warmups.
