WICHITA, Kan. – No better way to send off seniors than with a win. That's exactly what
R.J. Allen's squad did Saturday afternoon after downing the Pittsburg State Gorillas 73-63.
The Jets finish the season 6-12 (3-19 MIAA). Pittsburg State stumbles to an 8-20 (7-15 MIAA) finish after dropping their final two contests of the season.
The Jets used the top 3 overall scorers in the game and 4 double-figure scorers to edge out the Gorillas.
The lead changed 9 times with 7 ties. The Jets stretched their lead to as many as 12 points twice, once in each half.
The Jets were a perfect 15-15 from the charity stripe. Despite going 6-24 from three the Newman club shot 40% on the day.
Stevie Strong went for 26 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the way for Newman.
Israel Barnes went for 17 points.
Seniors
AJ Morris and
DeAndre Johnson scored 14 and 10 respectively. Johnson with a near double-double cleaned up the glass with nine rebounds.
David Javorsky grabbed eight boards himself while tacking on 4 points and sending 2 Gorilla shots back where they came from with a couple blocks.
The three Seniors finished off a tumultuous final season with nagging injuries, each battled their way through like they had their entire careers.
