TOPEKA, Kan. – Newman travelled to Topeka to take on two NSIC foes in the Washburn Invitational on Saturday. The Jets split on day one of the Invitational with a 5-0 win over the University of Mary and a 5-0 loss at the hands of St. Cloud State.
Game 1:
Madison Dewitt tossed a complete game shutout against University of Mary in the first game. The Jets scored in three innings on their way to 5 runs in the game.
Behind Dewitt's 6 strikeouts and just two hits allowed, the offense tacked on security runs in the 7
th with back to back doubles by
Madison Canez and
Anissa Ramos.
Game 2:
The Jets offense was stymied by St. Cloud State in their 5-0 defeat. The Jets were held to just 5 hits. The Huskies used 2 home runs to beat the Jets in Topeka.
Lauren Kuhrt went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Jets sputtering offense. After the solid 7 innings in game one, the Jets will look to mirror their first performance in day 2 of the invitational.
Up next for the Jets is more tournament play in Topeka. The Jets will have two games Sunday against four different NSIC opponents. Game one is at 9:30 AM against Sioux Falls and 11:30 AM versus Minnesota Crookston. For more information, stay tuned to newmanjets.com.
