Game Recap: Softball |

Softball splits day one of Washburn Invitational

TOPEKA, Kan. – Newman travelled to Topeka to take on two NSIC foes in the Washburn Invitational on Saturday.  The Jets split on day one of the Invitational with a 5-0 win over the University of Mary and a 5-0 loss at the hands of St. Cloud State.

Game 1:

Madison Dewitt tossed a complete game shutout against University of Mary in the first game.  The Jets scored in three innings on their way to 5 runs in the game.

Behind Dewitt's 6 strikeouts and just two hits allowed, the offense tacked on security runs in the 7th with back to back doubles by Madison Canez and Anissa Ramos.

Game 2:

The Jets offense was stymied by St. Cloud State in their 5-0 defeat.  The Jets were held to just 5 hits.  The Huskies used 2 home runs to beat the Jets in Topeka.

Lauren Kuhrt went 2-4 at the plate to lead the Jets sputtering offense.  After the solid 7 innings in game one, the Jets will look to mirror their first performance in day 2 of the invitational.

Up next for the Jets is more tournament play in Topeka.  The Jets will have two games Sunday against four different NSIC opponents.  Game one is at 9:30 AM against Sioux Falls and 11:30 AM versus Minnesota Crookston.  For more information, stay tuned to newmanjets.com.
