WICHITA, Kan. – The conference season is underway for Newman now as the red hot Washburn Ichabods came to town on Saturday. WU's winning ways were not slowed in Wichita as the Ichabods swept the Jets on their way to their sixteenth and seventeenth straight wins this season.

The Jets are now 5-9 (0-2 MIAA).  Washburn now is 19-6 (2-0 MIAA) after putting together two complete games in Wichita.

Game 1:

Washburn cruised to a 10-3 victory in the first game despite falling behind 2-0 in the first.

Anissa Ramos got the Jets on the board with a 2-run double scoring Lauren Kuhrt and Gianna Navarro.

Washburn posted big 5 run innings twice, once in the 5^th and again in the 7^th.  Big innings have kept the Jets from winning games in the past, and the same story played out against WU. Newman had 9 hits but struggled to string them together as 8 runners were left on base.

Game 2:

Newman struggled getting timely outs in the circle in game two.  The Ichabods made the pitchers and defense work hard.

Yet again, the hits were coming offensively, but leaving 10 runners on base is only a good problem when another 10 have crossed the plate.

Up next, Emporia State pays the Jets a visit on Sunday.  The double header is slate to begin at 12 PM.
