Griffons ground the Jets in Friday night doubleheader

WICHITA, Kan. – Newman hosted Missouri Western on Friday afternoon.  The Jets and Griffons played an MIAA doubleheader in which MWSU took both contests decisively.

Game 1 Final: MWSU 9 Newman 0
Game 2 Final: MWSU 11 Newman 3

The Jets are now 7-15 (1-5 MIAA) after suffering a pair of setbacks.  Missouri Western sits at 13-13 (4-2 MIAA) with the sweep.

Game 1:

The Jets could not get any offense rolling in game one.  Newman did not record a hit until the fourth inning and tallied three in the final inning, but it all was too little too late as the Griffons amassed a 9 run lead on 10 hits.

Madison Dewitt tossed 5 plus innings and aside from a frustrating top of the first and top of the sixth, pitched very well.  The sophomore allowed just one hit over the middle innings.

Missouri Western was carried by their pitcher, Sydney Rader, who tossed 6 shutout innings.

Game 2:

Newman hoped to turn around their luck in game two, but again struggled out the gate, falling behind 5-1 after two complete.

The Jet offense got an RBI from Taylor Ullery on a sacrifice fly in the second and 2 RBI from Anissa Ramos on a mammoth single that hit off the wall in the fifth.

Aside from those two plays, the Jets' offense went down fairly quietly. Mackenzie Anderson went 2-2 in game 2 including a base hit on a bunt.

Missouri Western was boosted by catcher Emma Hoffart who tallied 4 RBI in the second game.

The Jets are back in action on Saturday as Northwest Missouri comes to Wichita.  The double header is slated to begin at 12 PM.
