WICHITA – Newman and Fort Hays State completed their mid-week series of MIAA contest Tuesday afternoon. The Jets and Tigers played with temperatures in the high 80s with wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour blowing mostly out to left field throughout the afternoon. There were 7 big flies in the contest, six of which came from Newman batters on their way to a 24-7 win.

The Jets now boast a 20-17 (10-14 MIAA) mark on the year. FHSU drops to a woeful 3-33 (2-22 MIAA) with the loss at McCarthy Field.
Andrew Prieve took the ball to start and retired the Tigers in order to start the afternoon off.
In the home half of the first, the flood gates opened for the Newman offense.
Jenner Steele got the scoring started with an RBI single.
Carson Hawks and
Hayden VanDePol hit back-to-back jacks. Hawks' homerun scored
Jenner Steele as well.
Zack Hargrove singled in another run to cap off a 5 run first inning.
Over the middle innings the Jets outscored FHSU 19-7 to finish the game in 7 innings. Newman was held scoreless in just the second inning.
Jaret Granger picked up the win going the final 4 innings holding the Tigers to just 3 hits 1 run and punching out 3.
The offense tallied 6 homeruns with one homerun from
Tyler Push,
Trevor Pacheco,
Hayden VanDePol and
Zack Hargrove. The other two homeruns came from
Carson Hawks. Hawks led the way offensively with a 3-4 day 2 home runs and 5 RBIs.
6 Jets had multiple RBIs over the game.
Jenner Steele was a homerun away from the cycle while
Hayden VanDePol needed just a triple on the day to hit for the cycle.
The 24 runs and 23 hits in total helped the Jets reach double digit MIAA wins and 20 wins on the campaign.
