HAYS, Kan. – Newman paid a visit to Fort Hays State for some more MIAA softball. The Jets and Tigers played a pair Friday afternoon.
Game 1 Final/6: FHSU 10 Newman 2
Game 2 Final: FHSU 5 Newman 6
Newman is now 18-26 (9-13 MIAA) with the Friday split. The Tigers are now 23-24-1 (9-11 MIAA).
Game 1:
Aside from two RBI singles Newman's offense was rather dormant. Just five hits allowed the Tigers to maintain their lead that was built in the bottom of the third.
Madison Dewitt was tagged with the loss going four innings in the game.
Game 2
Newman earned the split with a narrow 6-5 win.
Lindsay Mayo walloped a solo blast to get the scoring started in the first. The Tigers answered back with one in the home half of the opening frame.
Newman added 2 in the second and three in third to build a 6-1 lead. The Tigers got 4 runs in the fifth to narrow the game to just a run, but the Jets held on.
Lindsay Mayo finished with three hits including the solo blast.
Mackenzie Anderson's two RBIs led the way for the Jets.
Megan Walz picked up her team leading seventh win on the season.
Up next, Newman will head to Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State for their final road contest of the season.
