4/5/2022 7:16:00 PM

NEWTON, Kan. – Newman hosted the Newman Invitational for the second consecutive year at Sand Creek Station.  The Jets and 16 other schools, 18 teams in total, participated in the tournament for a tournament field of 95.  The Jets finished in 8th place with Felisa Sajulga leading the way.

Felisa Sajulga had quite the two days at Sand Creek Station.  The freshman shot a program best round on day one when she shot a round of 67 (-5).  The score was just four strokes more than the women's collegiate round best at the course.  Sajulga led after day one.

Day two was a bit of an adventure as the wind was a much larger factor.  Sajulga turned in a 77 day two.  Combined with her record day Monday, Sajulga earned a second place finish, her top placement in a tournament this season.

The team shot 308 on day one and 319 day two for a score of 627 which placed them eighth.  Britney Wessley finished T43 with rounds of 82 and 77.

The tournament champion was Gracen Blount of Henderson State who put forth two stellar and consistent rounds of 73 and 70.

The team champion was MIAA foe Rogers State who posted 302 and 302, for a wire to wire victory at Sand Creek Station.

The MIAA women's teams will all return in just two weeks' time for the MIAA Conference Championship at Sand Creek Station on Thursday, April 21st.  Tournament play will continue through Saturday, April 23rd.
