Game 2
"No quit in this team" would be the right phrase to describe the effort given by the Jets as they faced a tough Arkansas Tech team who was looking to send Newman back to Wichita. After taking set 1 25-18, Newman saw themselves in a similar predicament as they lost sets 2 and 3 and were now down 2-1 in the game.
Down 22-16 in set 4, Newman rode a 5-0 run and were able to cut down on the Golden Suns lead and make it a 22-21 set 4. Finding themselves down 25-24, junior
Salome Romp took charge and scored back to back kills to make it 26-25 to give Newman their first lead since 9-8 in the set. The deciding final point came off a crucial block by
Abby Borough and McKinzie Weaver.
Newman looked to be cursing towards an easy set 5 win as they took a quick 6-2 lead but that was stopped in its tracks by a 5-0 Golden Suns run. Newman and Arkansas Tech traded points before the Jets were able to get enough breathing room and set themselves up for a match deciding kill by
Salome Romp to win the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.
Newman returns home for their first home match this upcoming Tuesday, September 6th against Drury.
