WICHITA – The Jets Men's Soccer team hosted Quincy on Wednesday in a physical match that saw 3 goals in the first half and a total of 5 yellow cards thrown at Newman.
Quincy opened the game with a goal in the 7th minute from Macker Little paired with the Jets first yellow card of the game. After a few more minutes of play, Quincy again scored, this time off a shot from Ben Scotford in the 11th minute. Newman was able to score a goal of their own from Nathan Huie off an assist by Felix Tellez Ramirez late in the first half. NU had a chance earlier in the first half as Joao Moreira's shot off a breakaway opportunity was just wide left of the goal. Huie's lone goal was Newman's only shot on goal as Quincy's David Fitzgerald finished the game with 1 goal given up and no saves.
Both teams traded opportunities in the 2nd half as Quincy came close to making it a 3-1 game after Nick Chapman's shot hit the crossbar. Newman battled back and set themselves up for scoring opportunities as aggressive defensive tactics from Quincy gave Newman multiple chances off free kicks. However, Newman couldn't get the equalizer as Quincy took the match 2-1.
Juan Carlos Cordova finished the game with 4 saves and kept Quincy out of the net in the 2nd half.
Newman goes back on the road this Friday against MSU Denver to continue their search for their first win of the season.
