TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Newman Women's Basketball looked for their 3rd conference win of the season as they wrapped up their 2 game road trip of Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon, taking on Northeastern State who was also looking for their 3rd conference win of the season. Newman was also looking for its first ever victory at Northeastern State and first since 2020.
The No. 12 3 point percentage team in the country would get all 12 points in the first quarter in the paint with
Britney Ho and
Valeriya Lioukina combining for 10 of the 12 and helping Newman lead the Riverhawks 12-10 heading into the 2nd quarter.

The Riverhawks would go from cold to hot quickly, springing out to a 9-1 run to take a 19-13 lead before
Maddie Spagnola drained a 3 point shot to put out the fire. NSU would respond back with a 3 of their own and continue the attack to get out to their largest lead of the half at 22-16.

The Jets would respond with an 11-4 run, capping it with a
Lauryn Dubbert 3 to take back the lead at 27-26 before NSU would end the half scoring the next 6 points for a halftime lead at 31-27.

NSU capitalized with 12 points to Newman's 2 points off turnovers in the first half.

3 was the lucky number for Jets to begin the 3rd quarter of play.
Lauryn Dubbert would get the scoring going with a 3 pointer, Ho would follow with her 7th rebound of the game and 12th point with a layup and free throw after drawing a foul and
Carissa Beck would make it a 3 point game with a 3 pointer from the corner to make it a 40-37 game.

Newman would out score NSU 21-15 in the 3rd.

With a 1 point lead going into the 4th the Jets would dig deep and
Britney Ho would make a layup to give Newman a 59-53 lead with under 4 minutes to go. NSU would fight back and make it a 2 point game but NU would hold off the last few punches thrown by the Riverhawks. Ho would finish the game with 21 points and 11 rebounds to earn her third double double of the season.

NSU had an opportunity to tie the game after stealing the ball from
Maddie Spagnola but
Kyra Grimshaw chased down Courtney Lee to keep the Jets lead intact.
Newman would earn their first victory in Tahlequah, defeating Northeastern State 66-61 with
Britney Ho leading the charge against her former school.
Lauryn Dubbert would finish with 13 points and
Kyra Grimshaw would end with 10.
Newman returns home this Thursday against Missouri Western.
