KEARNEY, Neb. - Newman Volleyball completed its road campaign with a visit to #10 Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday. The match was the final of eighteen on the road for the Jets this season.
The Jets are seeking for their first MIAA win on the campaign, while Nebraska-Kearney advances to 24-3 (12-3 MIAA). The three defeats of Kearney this season came on the road against MIAA opponents including two just last week.
In an always tough and raucous environment, Newman could not get the offense rolling early in set one. After an
Avery Dempsey kill to open up all scoring, the Lopers rattled off six straight points.
It was a game of scoring runs. UNK sided out against the Jets at a high clip, never allowing Newman to get in rhythm. The longest stretch of serves for Newman came in the second set trailing 12-6 with a kill by
Olivia Parsley, a block by
Ozioma Ajekwu and
Hannah Brisco, followed up by a service ace from
Camdyn Kindred.
Newman did hold a blocking advantage of 6.0 to 5.0 across the three sets. Senior, Libero
Natalie Morales led all players with 14 digs.
The regular season closes out with four home MIAA matches. The Jets will take the floor inside Fugate Gymnasium again on Thursday, Novmeber 2nd at 6 PM when Missouri Southern comes to town.
