WICHITA - Volleyball hosted their final game of the season on Saturday, celebrating senior day against Washburn.
Four seniors were celebrated before the game, with
Natalie Morales,
Hannah Brisco,
Mckinzie Weaver, and
Olivia Parsley being honored for their years of dedication to the program. All four of them would see significant action in their final game at home.
Newman was able to keep the Ichabods in check for the early stages of the match, coming from behind several times to take a slim lead. A 4-0 run that saw kills from Brisco and Parsley fired up the crowd in Fugate.
The Ichabods had other plans, as they shut down most Jet attacks the rest of the set. Washburn took the first set, 25-17.
The second set saw a 5-0 start for Washburn, which left the Jets struggling. The Jets would get a 7-2 run in, but once again were unable to capitalize on their good progress. Newman was only able to get four more points the rest of the set after the run.
The Jets would take an early advantage, but it would be one that they would be unable to hold on to as the Ichabod pressure mounted. A kill from Parsley, a senior, was the last points that they would score for the season, as Washburn took the third and final set, 25-17 despite a late and spirited fight from Newman.
Parsley led the team in kills in her final match with 8. Seniors Weaver and Morales led the team in assists and digs in their final appearance as well.
