Not once, not twice, but thrice
Newman Women's Basketball are set to play in their third straight home game, which is the middle game of their five game homestand.
Â
Tourney Time
The Jets hosted the first ever Newman Classic in Wichita this past weekend, in an event that saw four fun and competitive games. East Central took home the tournament crown following a win over Oklahoma Christian in the championship game. The Jets nearly made the final, coming up just short to the eventual tournament champions.
Â
Last Time Out
The Jets took on Upper Iowa in a game to decide third place at the Newman Classic. Following a solid opening quarter that saw the Jets hold the advantage, the tide completely turned in favor of the Peacocks.
The Jets had a very poor shooting day, making just two three's on 21 attempts and making 15 total field goals. Long scoring droughts in the game did not help, as the Jets would go down by double digits early in the second half.
Amiya Josey led the team in points with 11, with no other Jet being able to score more than 8.

Scouting the Squadron
The Jet are still looking for their first win this season, despite looking like they might have gotten a couple if some shots went their way. Valeria Lioukina still leads the team in points per game following her opening three games where she scored 10 or more points. Her 16 points she scored against William Jewell was a career high for the sophomore from Latvia.
Â
The Jets are not shooting the ball well, only shooting 19.2% from three. Senior
Carissa Beck was able to get five of them in a close loss to East Central, but it was overall a poor shooting weekend for the navy and red, who will look to bounce back against Manhattan Christian.

Â
Behind Enemy Lines
The Thunder of Manhattan Christian have played in five games this season, with the first three being exhibition contests. They have dropped their first two official games of the season, with losses to Central Christian and Ecclesia. The Thunder only have seven women on their roster and are averaging just 27.5 points a game. The team went 4-18, with all 4 of their wins coming in MCCC play.
Â
