WICHITA - Women's Basketball was absolutely dominant in their first win of the season, scoring the most points in a single game in program history.
It was off the races immediately for Newman as
Carissa Beck nailed a three pointer for the first points of the game just seconds in. Beck scored thirty against the Thunder last season, hitting 10 threes for 30 points.
Amazingly, the Jets started the game on a 36-0 run, with Beck starting the quarter with a three and ending the quarter with three to put the Jets up by almost 40.
Newman was lethal on the counter attack, getting steals at a high rate and converting a majority of them into points. The Jets would go up by 38 before the Thunder would score their first points.
The Jets only allowed 7 points in the half, which was the least amount of points the Jets have allowed in a half and a quarter in program history. The 66 points the Jets put up was also the most points the team had scored in a half in program history.
The offensive onslaught continued, as the Jets would score 33 in the third quarter and 35 in the fourth.
The 134 points the Jets put up was also a program record, with the team breaking the mark of last years team against the same opponent.
Freshman
Delainey Wylie broke the single game record for blocks, getting 7 on the night. She would also get a double-double, with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Valeriya Lioukina got her third double-double of the season, grabbing 11 points and 11 rebounds.
This was the Jets final non-conference game of the season, and will take a break for a week before hosting Lincoln and Central Missouri to open up MIAA play.
