Conference Openers
Newman Women's Basketball will host the first two games of conference play, hosting the Lincoln Tigers and nationally ranked Central Missouri.

Last Time Out
The Jets broke multiple records in their game against Manhattan Christian just before Thanksgiving. It was the largest win in program history, as the Jets would win by over 100 points, with a score of 134-20.

The previous record for biggest win had been set by the 2022/23 squad against the same opponent. It was also the fewest amount of points that the Jets had allowed in a quarter (0) and the most points scored in a half (68). The Jets would break the later record twice in a game, scoring 66 in the first half and 68 in the second.

Nine Jets would score in double digits, with Valeriya Lioukina and Delainey Wylie getting double doubles. Wylie would also break the record for blocks in a game with 7 against Thunder.

The win was the first for the team this season, as Amy Briggs got her first official win as head coach.
Recap | Box Score

Scouting the Squadron
After the opening three weeks of the season, Amiya Josey still leads the team in points per game, averaging over 10 per contest. The senior had 13 points in the win over Manhattan Christian.

Valeriya Lioukina had her third double-double of the season, which also leads the team.

The Jets saw a good rotation on Tuesday, letting some of the freshmen play some long outings of the game. It saw season debuts of 4 different players, as they combined for 38 points, which was almost double what the Thunder were able to score in the game.

The navy and red still are not particularly shooting well from three, with Carissa Beck leading with an average of 33.3% from beyond the arc.

Behind Enemy Lines
Lincoln have started the season with a 3-2 record, having also competed with the Jets in the Central Region Classic to open the season. They began the season 3-1, losing their last game to #17 Drury over Thanksgiving break.

The Tigers have an excellent three-point shooter in Steph Torres, who has shot over 40% from three to start the year.

The Jennies of Central Missouri are off to a red-hot start, beginning the season 5-0. The Jennies took a trip to Florida for Thanksgiving, making light work of Florida foes Barry and Lynn in Miami Shores.

At the time of release, the Jennies are ranked #4 nationally, which means this will be the first ranked opponent that the Jets will face off against this year.

The Series
Newman is 8-5 all time against Lincoln, with this being the final time the two will meet in the MIAA, as the Tigers will move to the GLVC beginning next year. The Jets are 4-2 against the Tigers since joining the conference, winning the last meeting in overtime in Jefferson City.

The Jets have never won against the Jennies, who are currently 0-5 against their opposition. The Jennies allowed only 38 points in the last meeting as they almost beat Newman by 40 the last time they met in Warrensburg.

Upcoming Attraction
The Jets will head on the road for the first time in Conference play to take on Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern next week.
