There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays
Women's Basketball hosts their final two games of a memorable 2023 calendar year, hosting two teams with eight wins in Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State.
Â
Last Time Out
Coming off a loss to Pittsburg State, the Jets headed to Missouri Southern looking to grab their first conference win of the season.
After a close opening quarter, the Lions jumped out to a lead while making over half of their shots.
Newman was coming off of their lowest shooting performance of the season, and although shot better against the Lions were down by too many points to make an impact.

Scouting the Squadron
With the team struggling on the offensive side of the ball, several freshman have been able to put some good performances early in their careers.
Freshmen
Dani Williams,
Delainey Wylie and
Jaeden McMillin have all had several games getting in double digits and often are leading scorers in the contests.
Williams and McMillin both led in scoring against the Lions. McMillin is having the best offensive start to the season thus far for the team.
The team is currently on a four-game skid following their record breaking game against Manhattan Christian.
Friend or Foe?
UNK Head Coach Drew Johnson returns to the gym where he helped lead last season's team to the MIAA Tournament. Following a 10-18 season, he was hired by the Lopers to be their new head coach. Emotions are almost certain to run high in what is expected to be a fun and exciting contest.
Behind Enemy Lines
Nebraska Kearney comes into this weekend with an 8-2 record. Following an undefeated start in non-conference play, the Lopers have lost 2 of their last 4 at the start of the conference season. They were shockingly upset by Northeastern State in their first loss of the season on the road and lost to the surprise team of the MIAA, Northwest Missouri State, last weekend.
The Lopers are currently outscoring their opponents by an average of more than 20 points a game, while allowing just under 55 points a game in what is one of the conference's top defenses.
Fort Hays State is 8-1 on the year and ranked #21 in the Division II Women's Basketball poll this week.
The Tigers have already had some impressive wins this season, including defeating #2 Minnesota State to open the season. The Tigers were undefeated until Saturday, where they were upset by Missouri Western by 3.
The Series
Newman is 1-9 all time against Nebraska Kearney. The only win against the Lopers was in 2020, just before the COVID pandemic cancelled the NCAA postseason. Since then, the Jets have lost 5 straight against the Lopers.
The Jets are 1-15 against Fort Hays State. The Jets defeated the Tigers in just their second ever meeting, but have since dropped 13 straight. They will hope that the unlucky 13 is coming to an end this Sunday.
Upcoming Attraction
The Jets open the new year with road games at Emporia State and Washburn in the first week of January.
