Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball has another tough shooting day against Lions

JOPLIN, MO. - Women's Basketball played against another testy opponent on Saturday, suffering another tough loss in conference play against Missouri Southern.

In their previous game, the Jets shot poorly from the field in what would be there worst shooting day of the season thus far. Although the Jets would shoot better today, they would once again be outplayed by their opponents early.

The first quarter was rather close as a Jaeden McMillin three pointer leveled the game at 9, but it would be the last time that the two teams would be tied. The Lions took a slight lead into the second quarter, but would explode with offense in the next three periods.

Newman would go almost five minutes without a field goal in the second quarter, but by then the Lions were well ahead by more than 20 points and would go on a 7-2 run in the last two minutes of the half.

The third quarter was the best quarter for Newman, as they scored a high 20 points in the period. The Jets made half of their shots in the quarter, but could not salt away a 30 point deficit.

The Lions would go on to win a contest that was not close for a good majority of the game, 97-56.

Freshmen McMillin and Dani Williams were the leading scorers with 12 and 11 points respectively. Leading scorer Carissa Beck was only able to score 2 points in 28 minutes of action.

The Jets will return home for the final two games of 2023 next week, with the first being against Nebraska-Kearney on Friday at 5:30.
