WICHITA - Women's Basketball hosted Nebraska Kearney, as they competed in one of the final games before Christmas break.
After impressive defensive stands for the Jets, it took the Lopers nearly four minutes to crack into the score and take the lead. It was unfortunately not a great period and half overall for the women, but they came out with better energy in the second half that made the closer than what the score indicated.
In the first half, the Jets were mainly getting their points at the free throw line, but in the second they took it to the paint harder and came up with some big points.
While they were trailing the entire game, the Jets still showed they had pride to play for as their play in the third and fourth quarters lifted team spirits as they got back into the game.
At one point in the fourth, the Jets couldn't stop scoring, as they would get a quick six point swing in about a minute, thanks in part to some tremendous ball handling and quick steals from
Dani Williams and
Amiya Josey.
Carissa Beck was tonight's top scorer with 15 points.
Valeriya Lioukina almost had a double-double with 10 points and 7 rebounds.
Williams would have her 6 points and 3 steals in the fourth quarter, with all of them coming in about a 2 minute span.
The Women will have one more shot at picking up a conference win before the break, as they host Fort Hays State on Sunday at 1:30.
