Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Five Jets finish with double figures in win over Lopers

Team riding a three game win streak against UNK

WICHITA - Men's Basketball picked up their second conference win of the season, defeating Nebraska Kearney in a convincing fashion.

Following a disapointing road trip last weekend, the Jets were determined to get back on track on their home court.

It appeared right from the start that this would be a very high scoring contest, with both teams hitting shots early and trading leads.

Newman was able to grow their lead to double digits at one point during the first half, the type of lead they have not always had in conference play this season. They would go into the half up by five.

The Jets would utterly dominate the second half, getting their biggest leads of the season in conference play in the process. The team had struggled with pulling away from their opponents thus far this season, but there was no doubt in tonight's game that the Lopers would be able to mount a comeback from the high powered Jets offense.

The largest lead would be by 20 in the second half, and it was a game that the Jets needed to get their confidence back.

It was the most complete team performance this season, as the ball was spread around well with everyone involved in scoring.

Stevie Strong, Sam Somerhalder, Latik Murphy, Kaeson Fisher-Brown and Boston Stanton would all have double digit scoring nights, with Somerhalder, Murphy and Stanton all getting 14. Strong would have 19 points inclduing 3 three pointers and going a perfect six for six from the free throw line.

Overall, the team made 12 three pointers on the night, which helped extended their big lead in the second half.

The men have just one more game in the month of December, as they take on a top regional opponent in Fort Hays State on Sunday afternoon.
