Last Time Out
The Jets hosted #3 Central Missouri last Saturday, and proved to be a tough test for the young Jets team.
Newman only lead one time during the game and it was in the 1
st quarter. The experienced Jennies team was able to wear down the Jets in route to remaining undefeated.
Carissa Beck had 15 of her 16 points from three, as she led the Jets in scoring that afternoon. Three other players had 8 points, but no one else would have more than that.
It was a game that the team is expected to grow from, as this was the toughest competition that they have faced to start the season. Conference play will only get more challenging from here, but the Jets showed that they had plenty of spirit and fight in them despite being down big through most of the game.

With a record of 1-7, the Jets will look to pick up their first conference wins against the Gorillas and Lions.
Behind Enemy Lines
Pittsburg State has started off the year very strong, with the Gorillas winning 6 straight games to open the season before falling to Northwest Missouri State on Saturday. The Gorillas have already beaten a ranked opponent, #23 Missouri Western, and were picked to finish third in the MIAA preseason poll. In the last coaches poll, the Gorillas received 8 votes and could potentially be ranked by the time the Jets square off with them.
Missouri Southern is currently 3-4 and 0-2 in conference play. The Lions started 2-0 but have lost four out of their last five. They have already faced off against 2 top 25 teams this season, including #12 Southern Nazarene. This Lion's home game will be their last for over a month, as they will not have a game in Joplin until they host Fort Hays State in mid-January.
The Series
Newman has never defeated Pittsburg State, with the Gorillas leading the all time series 8-0. The series has dated back to 2010, with the Jets only losing by single digits in only one of the seven games.
The Jets are 2-5 all time against Missouri Southern, who have won the last three against the Jets. The last time Newman defeated the Lions was in 2020.
Upcoming Attraction
The Jets will close out 2023 with two games before Christmas, hosting Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State.
