PITTSBURG, KS. - Women's Basketball fell to Pittsburg State on Thursday evening, in a night that saw the Jets struggle on both sides of the ball.
The Jets nearly got their first conference win last week, but were held on the final shot by Lincoln. Following a tough test with #3 Central Missouri, the Jets were hoping to get back on the right side of things.
It did not start well for Newman, with the Gorillas scoring the first six points in quick succession before even getting points on the board.
Senior
Carissa Beck scored a majority of Newman's points in the quarter, scoring 7 of the 9 points. Unfortunately, it was not enough to keep the score close.
Beck again would score the most points in the second quarter, but the Gorillas continued the offensive onslaught till the end of the period. Long scoring droughts did not help the Jets cause as they went down by more than 20 going into half.
The rest of the game was not flattering to the scoreline, as the Gorillas would go up by more than 50 at one point in what was truly a poor day for the Jets.
Beck, with her points coming with a hot hand through most of the 1st half, led the team with 12 points. Shooting just 24.3% from the field, it was hard for anyone else to get going, with nobody reaching double digits but Beck.
The team will look to put this disapointing result behind them, as they head to Missouri Southern on Saturday with a 1:30 pm tip off.
