Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ho and Spagnola lead the Jets in Homecoming victory against the Riverhawks

WICHITA- The Jets hosted the NSU for homecoming night in Fugate Thursday night. It was the 2nd meeting between the teams after Newman downed the Riverhawks earlier in the season.

Newman dominated in the first quarter. The Jets started on a 10-0 run forcing the Riverhawks to take their first timeout of the game. Newman kept scoring the ball well, putting up 24 points in the first quarter.

Britney Ho had 14 of the 24 and went 6 for 7 from the field. Newman shot 58% from the field and 57% from three. The Jets had a 24-10 lead going into the second quarter.

In the second quarter the Jets extended their lead to 14. The second quarter was full of runs from both teams. The Riverhawks chipped at the lead to bring it within 6, but that was the as close as the Jets would allow them to get. Valerija Lioukina led the Jets with 6 points going 3 for 4 from the field in the quarter. Going into the break, Newman led 42-32.

Free throws were the only thing that kept the Riverhawks in the game in the second half. The Riverhawks shot 11 free throws in the third quarter, compared to the Jets 5. However, Ho and Maddie Spagnola couldn't be stopped. Ho put up 5 points and Spagnola had 6. Newman went into the 4th quarter leading 59-50.

The 4th quarter the Riverhawks made a run at the Jets and cut it to 4 pints with 41 seconds to play, but the Jets answered. Big free throws within the last minute by Amiya Josey, Ho, and Lauryn Dubbert helped the Jets secure a win over the Riverhawks, 74-66.

Ho led the Jets in scoring with 26 points on 14 shots.

Spagnola netted 16 going 4 for 7 from three along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds.

Lioukina and Jordon Heckert added 8 points.

Newman is back in action Saturday February 18th at 1:30pm. The Jets are set to host Rogers State.
