WICHITA - The Jets hosted the Hillcats for their second meeting of the season. Newman lost a heartbreaker in double overtime at Rogers State back in January.
The Jets were slow to start the offensive side of the game, only scoring 9 points in the first quarter. Their defense held Rogers State to only 10. Despite struggling to score the ball, the Jets were battling. Carissa Beck brought the energy with 7 rebounds in the first quarter.
The Jets came back to take the lead and extended it to a 7 point game with 8:00 minutes to go in the first half. Scoring from Britney Ho allowed the Jets to keep the lead. Ho had 10 points in the quarter, going 5 for 7 from the field. Newman won the quarter 15-12 and went into the break with a 2 point lead. Ho lead first half scorers with 12 points along with 4 rebounds.
Coming out of halftime, the Jets went on the first run and extended their lead to 9. Soring from Ho and and Beck allowed the Jets to keep that lead. Newman shot 66% from three and 42.9% from the field in the quarter. Beck netted 2 threes and Ho added 7 points. Newman held the Hillcats to only 11 points in the quarter. The Jets went into the 4th quarter with a 40-33 lead.
The Jets went on another run to extend their lead, but the Hillcats continued to fight back. The Hillcats came within 2 points with 5:30 left to play but Newman did not allow the Hillcats to take the lead. Scoring from Ho pushed the Jets to take control of the game. Ho had 7 points in the final quarter. Lauryn Dubbert and Beck hit key free throws to keep the lead and take the win. The Jets beat the Hillcats 58-47.
Ho led all scorers with 26 points going 11 for 18 from the field and perfect from behind the arc. Ho also pulled in 6 rebounds.
Beck recorded her first career double double with 12 points and 10 boards.
Spagnola dished out 5 assists and pulled in 4 rebounds.
The Jets are back in action Wednesday February 22nd in St.Joseph, MO to take on the Griffons.
