TOPEKA, KS- The Jets traveled to Topeka, KS to compete in the ESU Tournament.
Game 1:
UMSL took the first lead of the game with 1 run in the top of the second. In the bottom of the inning, Newman answered with a run of their own. An RBI by Gianna De Luca-Paape batted Anissa Ramos across the plate.
UMSL was able to answer in the top of the third inning taking the lead 2-1. Newman fought right back with a run of there own with an RBI from Samanatha Gutierrez hitting Canez in. This run made it 3-2 with the Jets on top.
UMSL scored the next two runs. Hitting one across in the 4th inning and one in the 7th inning.
Newman battled back with a run in the bottom of the 7th to force extra innings.
UMSL struck first in the top of the 9th taking the lead 5-4. The bottom of the 9th the Jets were able to get the offense going. A bunt by Canez scored Torri Waggoner to tie the game. Canez was the winning run who scored on a throwing error by the defense. The Jets took the win in the 9th inning 6-5.
Ramos ended the day with 2 RBIs going 2-4 from the plate and scoring once.
Gutierrez went 2-4 from the plate, scoring twice.
Game 2:
The Jets struck first in game 2. Madi Canez singled to right field hitting Mikenna Barcelona and Laurie Cooke across the plate. The Jets took the first lead of the game 2-0 in the top of the 3rd.
The Bulldogs answered back with 1 run in the bottom of the third. The Jets escaped the inning only giving up one and keeping the lead 2-1.
In the top of the 6th inning Gianna Navarro singled to center field which scored Samantha Gutierrez. A couple of batters later, Barcelona singled to right center field that put Navarro and Lauren Kwak across the plate. The Jets ended the 6th inning with a 5-1 lead.
The Bulldogs tried to make a run at the Jets lead, scoring one in the bottom of the 6th inning to cut the lead 5-2. Neither team scored in the 7th inning.
Newman took the win 5-2.
Navarro ended the game 2-3 from the plate and scoring once.
Barcelona went 2-3 from the plate and scored once.
