Box Score 2 Emporia, KS- Newman traveled to Emporia, KS for day two of the ESU Tournament.
Game 1:
The Jets struggled to get the offense rolling in the first few innings.
MSU batted around 3 in the 2nd and 3rd inning to take the lead 3-0.
In the top of the 5th, the Jets finally put a run on the board with an RBI from Samantha Gutierrez that batted Summer Young across the plate. Newman trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the 5th.
MSU tacked on 5 more runs in the 5th and 6th innings to extend their lead to 7. Newman wasn't able to rally and took the loss 8-1.
Game 2:
The Jets defense struggled in the top of the first inning. Newman allowed 6 runs in the inning and could not put any on the scoreboard in the bottom of of the inning.
Neither team scored in the 2nd inning.
The Jets got their bats rolling in the 3rd and 4th inning. Laurie Cooke doubled to left field which put McKenna Barcelona across the plate. The Jets first run of the game. That run cut the lead to 5.
OBU put another run on the board in the top of the 4th inning to extend their lead back to 6.
The Jets battled back in the bottom of the inning. An RBI from Lauren Kwak hit in Madi Canez in and a walk with bases loaded put Gianna Navarro in. The Jets ended the inning with 3 left on base. Newman went into the 5th inning down 7-3.
OBU scored 2 more in the top of the 6th and 7th inning. Newman couldn't get the bats rolling late and lost 9-3.
The Jets are back in action Wednesday, February 22nd in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Newman will face Oklahoma Baptist with a double header.
