Shawnee, Oklahoma- Newman traveled down to Oklahoma to face OBU for a double header. The Jets fell 3-9 in their previous matchup.
GAME 1:
The Jets offense wasted no time getting their bats going. Lead off batter, Laurie Cooke roped a single into center to start the inning. Pitches later, Madi Canez doubled to right field putting Cooke across the plate. OBU escaped the inning only allowing 1 run to the Jets.
OBU came out connecting in the bottom half of the inning. OBU scored 2 in their half inning, taking the lead 2-1 going into the top of the second.
The Jets and Bisons couldn't connect the next few innings. Newman would be the first to score next in the top of the 4th inning.
Gianna Navarro and Anissa Ramos started the inning off with singles, putting them at 1st and 3rd with 1 out. Gianna De Luca Paape doubled to right field, moving Ramos to third and scoring Navarro to tie it up at 2 all. OBU escaped the inning again. Newman went into the bottom of the 4th tied 2-2.
Neither team could get their bats going again, forcing an extra inning. The Jets had 1 runner left on base in the top of the 8th inning, but couldn't hit her in. OBU scored in the bottom of the inning to take the win 3-2.
GAME 2:
Newman struggled to get the offense rolling. Newman didn't score until the top of the 5th inning. The Jets defense was the key to their game. Newman held OBU to only 2 runs and forced extra innings.
In the 5th inning Tori Waggoner scored with an RBI from Alex Schreiner, which allowed the Jets to take the lead 1-0.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, OBU found a run of their own tying it up at 1 all. Neither team struck again until OBU scored in the bottom of the 9th inning to take the win 2-0.
