KEARNEY, NE- Newman Men's Tennis program took a trip to Kearney Nebraska to take on two non-conference opponents, Midwestern State and MSU Denver.
Match 1:
Doubles matches were looking positive for the Jets. Luca Penteado and Gustavo Gil took the first win of the 2023 season with a score of 6-4. Ali Mounir and Irfan Makhmudov put up a fight forcing an extra game, but couldn't complete the comeback, they lost 7-5. All three of the doubles matches were within a few points, but Newman couldn't come out on top. Midwestern State took the doubles matches winning 2 of the 3.
The Jets didn't bring in a singles win. Though they forced two extra games in two different sets, they couldn't complete the comeback against a talented Midwestern State team and ended the day 0-7.
Match 2:
Ali Mounir and Isfan Makhmudov started the night off with a doubles win, but that would turn out to be the only Jets doubles win. MSU Denver took doubles with 2 of 3 matches.
Isfan Makhmudov was the only Jet of the day to win a singles match. He beat his opponent 6-4 and 6-1. Pedja Kolaric was points away from victory, but couldn't capitalize in the crucial set point moments.
The Jets put up a fight in their singles matches, but it was not enough to record a win.The Jets lost 6-1.
