Penteado clinches 4-3 win for Men's Tennis, No. 39 Women drop tight match to Lubbock Christian

WICHITA - The Jets hosted Lubbock Christian for Men's and Women's action. 


Men's Tennis:

 Luca Penteado and Gustavo Gil, in the #2 spot, won the only doubles match for the Jets, 6-2. The score was 1-1 after the first two doubles. The doubles point came down to the #3 doubles, and the Jets lost a close one in the tie break. Lubbock Christian took the doubles point 2-1. 

Kurt Suarez Bruckner played a top 10 opponent and was unable to secure the win at the 1 spot, losing 3-6 in both sets. 

Pedja Kolaric had a very strong day. Kolaric won in 2 sets, 6-3 and 7-5, over a ranked opponent.

Ali Mounir was unable to overtake his opponent, losing in 2 sets. 

Isfan Makhmudov and Gil had dominant showing. Makhmudov beat his opponent 6-3 and 6-2. Gil beat his opponent 6-3 and 6-1. These wins brought the Jets to a 3-3 overall team score with one more match to finish off the day. 

Penteado was the deciding matchup and the last one on the court. Penteado took the first set 6-4. He battled in the second set and took the set 6-4 to bring the Jets the victory, 4-3. 

Women' Tennis: 

The Jets , for the 3rd match in a row, clinched the doubles point. A 6-4 win from Isabela Campos Bifano and Dana

Issabayeva , in the #2 spot and a 6-3 win from Nicole Bono and Antonia Ramos, in the #3 spot. 

The Jets started off hot with 3 courts winning their first sets. In the #1 spot, Issabayeva was able to pull out a win through a tie break. Issabayeva won 6-1 , dropped her second set, then came back to win the tiebreak. 

Ani Zeikidze had a well fought match in the #2 spot, but lost in two sets 3-6 and 4-6. 

 Bifano played in the #3 spot and lost 1-6 in the first set. Bifano tried to rally back in the second, but came up short with a 4-6 loss. 

Nicole Bono won her first set 6-3. She fought in the second set, and lost in a nail biter 7-5 which forced another tie break for the Jets. Bono could not quite finish her opponent off  and lost the tie break 9-11. 

Divya Murali continued the trend of the day to force a tie break. Murali won her first set in dominant form , 6-3. In the second she dropped the set 2-6. Murali battled in the tie break, but could not pull out the win. 

Hands lost her first set 4-6. Hands rallied back to take the second set 7-4, forcing the tie break. Amber Hands was the 4th Jet of the day to force a tie break. Hands was able to complete the comeback, taking the tiebreak and winning her match. 

The Jets were points away from a victory, but lost the match 4-3. 

The Jets are back in action Sunday, March 12th. Newman will host Texas A&M Texarkana.
