TOPEKA, Kans - The Jets traveled to Topeka to face the Washburn for their first MIAA matchup of the season The Ichabods are currently ranked No.18 in the country.
Game 1:
In the top of the first inning, Laurie Cooke started things off with a single to left field. Madi Canez was able to hit in Cooke a few pitches later, to take the lead 1-0.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Ichabods answered back with a run of their own to tie it 1-1 heading into the second inning.
The Jets were unable to get the offense rolling after the first inning and would not score until the top of the 7th.
The Ichabods were able to capitalize on the offensive end scoring 4 in the second inning and 2 in the 6th to take the lead 7-1 heading into the 7th inning.
In the top of the 7th inning, the Jets took advantage of a pitching change and got their bats rolling. Anissa Ramos led off the inning with a single to center field. Gianna De Luca-Paape reached 1st on a walk. With 2 runners on base, Hannah Mendez came up big with a double to left center field which scored both runners. That hit cut Washburns lead , 7-3. Cooke hit in Mendez the next at bat, making the score 7-4. However, this is as close as the Jets would get. Washburn took the win 7-4.
Cooke went 2-4 from the plate with 1 RBI. Canez went 2-3 from the plate hitting in 1 run.
Game 2:
The Jets got going early in the first inning, Gianna Navarro was first on base for the Jets with a single to right field. Madi Canez was next up and followed Navarros lead with a single to center. Gianna De Luca-Paape came up huge with a bomb to center field to put the Jets up 3-0.
Washburn put up 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 4-3. A play by Cooke at short stop got the Jets out of the inning with 1 Ichabod left on base.
The Jets left 2 on base in the top of the second inning. The Ichabods were able to add 1 run in the bottom of the second to extend their lead 5-3.
The Jets were unable to capitalize on the offensive end for the rest of the game. The Ichabods put up 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to seal the game. Newman lost 11-3 through 5 innings.
De Luca Paape went 1-3 from the plate with a big home run to bring in the Jets 3 runs.
