Jets split on Day 1/2 vs. Southern Nazarene

Bethany, OK- The Jets traveled to Oklahoma to take on the SNU in a four game series. Newman took 2 wins on the day with 2 more tomorrow. 

Game 1: 
The first game the Jets took control early. Laurie Cooke started off the inning with a triple to put the Jets in great scoring position. The next at bat, Gianna Navarro hit a sacrifice fly to put Cooke across the plate allowing the Jets to take the early lead, 1-0.

The Jets defense put SNU offense away early, not allowing a run until the bottom of the 7th inning. 

Neither team could put runs on the board until the Jets put up 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning. An RBI from Tori Waggoner hit in a run, extending the Jets lead to 2. 

In the top of the 5th inning, a single from Navarro put her on base, but an error by the defense allowed Navarro to score making the Jets lead 3-0. 

The he Jets added another run in the 7th inning. Hits from Navarro and Madi Canez put the Jets in scoring position. An RBI from Ramos extended the Jets lead 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning. 

 SNU hit in 1 run in the bottom of the inning, but was not enough to overcome the deficit the Jets had created. 

Madison Dewitt records the win, pitching a full game with 2 strikeouts and only 4 hits and 1 run allowed. Dewitt moves to 3-4 on the season. 

Navarro went 2-3 from the plate with 1 RBI. Ramos added 1 RBI going 2-4. 

Game 2: 

The Jets offense got going in game 2, but SNU was able to get their offense going as well. In the first inning, the Jets had 3 hits but could not hit anyone around leaving 3 on base. SNU scored 3 runs in 4 hits in the bottom of the inning, creating a 3-0 lead

The Jets answered back in the 2nd inning with a run of their own by an RBI from Gianna Navarro. However, the Jets ended the inning again with runners left on base. with that run, Newman cut the lead 3-1. The Jets defense was able to hold SNU to 0 runs in the bottom of the inning. 

SNU struck next in the bottom of the 3rd inning, adding 2 runs making their lead 5-1. 

The Jets offense battled back in the top of the 4th adding 2 runs on 2 hits. With an RBI from Navaro and a walk with bases loaded, the Jets cut the lead to 5-3. The Jets defense was unable to hold back the SNU offense, allowing SNU to put 2 more runs on the board, making the score 7-3 heading into the 5th inning. 

The Jets cut into the lead with an RBI by Kaitlyn Praught to add 1 run, making the score 7-4 in favor of SNU. The Jets continued to rally in the 6th inning adding 3 more runs. RBIs from Tori Waggoner and Hannah Mendez tied the game up at 7-7. 

However, SNU answered back in the bottom of the inning scoring 3 more runs to take back the lead 10-7. The Jets couldn't get the offense going, which led to a 10-7 loss. 

Navarro was 4-5 from the plate with 2 RBIs. Waggoner went a perfect 3-3 from the plate with 1 RBI and scoring 4 times. 

The Jets are back in action Wednesday March 15th at 1 and 3 PM to take on SNU for 2 more games.
