HAYS, Kan. - Baseball moved to 8-7 all time vs Fort Hays State on Tuesday afternoon with a midweek conference matchup win over the Tigers, 13-8 in convincing fashion. The Jets took the lead in the 2nd inning and held it the rest of the way, despite a Tiger scare in the 5th inning.

7 Jets combined for 12 hits and 13 runs, led by
Jenner Steele who had 3 and 2 RBI's and
Zack Stewart who had 2 hits and 3 RBI's.

The Jets went down 1-0 after the 1st but
Hayden Vandepol scored
Jason Schneider and Vandepol himself would score on a safety squeeze by
Dalton Smith to take a 2-1 lead.

Nothing went right for the Tigers in the top half of the 3rd inning. Fort Hays State's pitching staff walked 5 batters in the inning and all 5 batters would score. A bases loaded walk scored
Jenner Steele, and then a sac fly, a single, a fielders choice, and an error would help plate 5 Jets to go out to a 7-1 lead that the Tigers wouldn't recover from.

Fort Hays State would put together 5 unanswered runs but Newman would punch back with 3 more in the 6th. Steele doubled to left center to score
Shawn Marquis and would advance to third on a wild pitch that scored
Jake Angelico.
Zack Stewart recorded his 2nd RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly on a 3-2 pitch to give the Jets a 4 run lead.

NU would add on to their lead in the 8th with Stewart earning his 3rd RBI of the day on a single to right center to score Steele again, and
Hayden Vandepol would hit a sacrifice fly to score Schneider. Fort Hays made it a 12-8 game in the 8th but the Jets got an insurance run in the 9th on another fielder's choice that scored Marquis.

Ian Lecki earned his 3rd win of the season after pitching 2.2 innings in relief for
Colby Wilson. The graduate student struck out 4 Tigers in a row in his outing and would finish with 5 on the day.
Andrew Prieve would finish the 9th inning by getting FHSU's Knox to fly out to right field.

The Jets move to 11-13 and 5-5 in conference with the win. Newman has won 5 out of their last 6 dating back to last week and moves to a 3 game win streak vs Fort Hays State.
