Great Bend, KS- The Jets headed to Great Bend to take on Iowa Central. Newman was originally set to play Barton CC as well, but was postponed due to weather.
Newman had a strong showing in the doubles matches, taking all 3 matches to win the point. Pedja Kolaric and Ali Mounir played in the #1 spot and took their win 7-5. Luca Penteado and Gustavo Gil played in the #2 spot and took their win 6-4. In the #3 spot, Isfan Makhmudov and Andrea Bramati were able to finish the clean sweep in the doubles with a 6-4 win.
The Jets struggled to get their singles going. They were only able to take 1of the 6 singles matches. Luca Penteado was the only Jet to win a point in singles. Penteado won both sets 6-2 in the #5 spot.
Kurt Suarez Bruckner, in the #2 spot, played a tough match. Bruckner lost his first set 6-4, and tried to rally back in his second set, but lost 7-5.
Isfan Makhmudov and Jarrod Nowak were both able to take 1 of their sets. Makhmudov took his first set 7-5, but lost his second 7-6 forcing a third set. He battled but couldn't come out on top. Nowak lost his first set, but rallied back in the second set taking it 6-2. Nowak's win in the second set forced a tie break, but he fell short losing 10-5.
The Jets lost the match 5-2.
Newman Men's Tennis starts up conference play Sunday, March 19th where they will host Augustana.
