Jets force extra innings in game 2 against Missouri Western to take first conference win of the season

ST.JOSEPH, MO- The Jets traveled to Missouri to take on the Griffons for their 3rd conference opponent.

Game 1:

The Jets fell short in game 1. Newman gave up 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and were never able to recover from it.

Newman was able to add one run on the board in the top of the 5th inning, but it was not enough to overcome the Griffons 11 point deficit they had built up through 4 innings. The Jets fell 11-1 and looked to rally for game 2.

Game 2:

The Jets completely turned things around for game 2, not allowing the first game loss to turn them away.

Missouri Western struck first with a big 2nd inning. The Griffons scored 7 in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 7-0. However, Newman was able to come up big in the top of the third inning and answered right back.

Alexis Diaz walked to start off the inning. Alex Schreiner was first to get the Jets bats going. Schreiner got on base after a single to right field. Gianna Navarro came up next and hit a double to left field which moved Schreiner to third base and Diaz across the plate, scoring their first run. Laurie Cooke followed that with a single of her own that scored Schreiner and moved Navarro to third. Madi Canez came up with a big single that put two runs across the plate, bringing the score 7-4. Canez was able to score later in the inning on a throwing error by the Griffons. The Jets were within striking distance, 7-5.

Newman was able to strike again in the top of the 6th inning. Gianna De Luca-Paape started the inning off with a base hit. Schreiner came up a few batters later and hit an RBI to close the lead, 7-6. Navarro came up with a huge game tying RBI to make the game 7-7. The Jets had all of the momentum heading into the bottom of the 6th inning.

The Jets held the Griffons scoreless in the 6th, 7th and 8th innings.

In the top of the 9th inning, a game winning RBI from Jaleigh Conkle allowed Laurie Cooke to score, which allowed the Jets to take their first lead of the series, 8-7. The Jets defense was solid in the bottom of the 9th, with 3 batters up and 3 batters retired.

Newman took the win 8-7 through 9 innings.
