TOPEKA, Kan. - The Jets fell in game 3 vs Washburn on Monday afternoon, getting dealt their first series sweep of the season.
Newman went down early 2-0 after a wild pitch scored an Ichabods run and then an RBI groundout in the 1st inning put saw NU trialing heading into the 2nd.
Carson Hawks got back into the home run column with a blast to left center that brought the deficit to 1. Newman would get the 2nd run back and tie the game the very next inning when Hawks came back up to the plate and hit an infield single to score
Jake Angelico.
The Ichabods took the 2 runs back in the bottom half of the 3rd. Washburn's Savage took a 3-2 pitch into the right center field trees to put the Jets back in the spot they were not too long before.
Jenner Steele made it a 1 run game in the 7th with an RBI single that scored
Shawn Marquis, making it his 30th hit of the season - the first Jet to reach that mark. Washburn again made it a 2 run game the next half inning with another RBI off the bat from Savage. Jenner wasn't a fan of that and 2 innings later with the Jets down to their final 3 outs hit a long fly ball into the right center field trees to tie the game at 5-5. Steele now has 7 home runs on the season.
Washburn would walk it off in the bottom of the inning. After the first runner got on, a wild pitch would advance him to 2nd and a single down the right field line would score the runner, making it the 2nd Ichabod walk-off in the series.
Newman looks to snap a 6 game losing streak when they take on Central Christian on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 2 PM.
