OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Women's Golf returned to action for their 2023 Spring season after a 5 month break from the Fall 2022 season.
The Jets began their first tournament of the spring season in Oklahoma City Oklahoma to take part in the 2023 Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational at Lincoln Park Golf Course East. The tournament consisted of 16 teams and 4 MIAA foes in Northwest Missouri State, Fort Hays State, Central Oklahoma, and Northeastern State.
The Jets shot 67 pars and 12 birdies on the 2 day event.
Felisa Sajulga would lead Newman after round 1. Sajulga shot a 79 which placed her in 36th place. Right behind Sajulga was
Bethany Griffiths who'd end the first round shooting an 80 and shoot for 1 birdie and 7 pars heading into day two.
Griffiths would step up in round two and shoot a personal best 75. She'd finish with a team high 4 birdies to finish at +1 on the day and lead Newman at the end of the invitational with a T36 finish at +13 (155). Sajulga would finish one stroke behind her at 156 after shooting a 79 in day one and a 77 in day two.
Alivia Nguyen finished the tournament shooting 167. She'd place tied for 74th.
Aiden Coffelt was able to improve her day one score of 87 down to an 83 in day two to finish with a score of 170.
Megan Bay shot 3 strokes lower in her final round to finish at 181.
As a team the Jets finished in 14th and ended the invitational ahead of MIAA foe Fort Hays State and regional foe Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Newman will be back on the course next Monday and Tuesday during Spring Break to take part in the Hillcat Classic, hosted by Rogers State at the Bailey Ranch Golf Club in Owasso, Oklahoma.
