WICHITA- The Jets hosted Missouri Southern to celebrate senior day. The Lions are currently tied, with UCO, for first place in the MIAA and are ranked No.2 in the region.
Game 1:
Megan Walz was in the circle for the Jets for game 1. Walz and the Jets defense held the Lions scoreless through 4 innings. Walz allowed only 4 hits through those 4 innings.
However, the Lions were able to hold the Jets scoreless through those innings as well.
The Lions were first to get on the board and were able to tack on 3 runs in the the 5th inning and 1 run in the top of the 7th.
The Jets were unable to answer, and were held scoreless through the game.
The Jets dropped game 1, 4-0.
Game 2:
Missouri Southern took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. However, the Jets bats came alive in the bottom of the inning. Gianna Navarro lead off the Jets with a single. Madi Canez was able to capitalize off of Navarro's single with a triple that knocked Navarro in. Laurie Cooke jumped in on the action with a double to center that put Canez in. The Jets took the lead 2-1 heading into the 2nd inning.
The top of the 2nd inning was big for the Lions, scoring 3 runs to take the lead 4-2.
After this lead change, neither team was able to add any more to the board. The Jets had as many hits as the Lions, 8, but were unable to string those hits together to overcome to deficit.
The Jets fell 4-2.
Canez went 3-3 with 1 RBI.
Cooke went 2-3 with 1 RBI.
On Deck: The Jets will host Pittsburg State on Sunday, April 30th at 1 and 3 PM for their last home game of the season.
