Timely hitting pushes Hornets past Jets
WICHITA - Baseball dropped their opening game of the final home series, losing 9-1 to Emporia State. The Jets struggled with runners in scoring position and timely hitting helped Emporia State cruise to a win.
Garrett VanDeventer moved to 5-3 on the season. He struck out a season high 8 batters in the loss.
Emporia State took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd but the Jets tied things up on a
Zack Stewart single that scored
Jason Schneider. Stewart and Schneider both finished the game with 2 hits.
The Hornets scored 3 more runs in the 4th inning, 2 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th and 2 in the 9th inning to run away with a 9-1 victory. They outhit the Jets 10-7 on the afternoon. Newman left 8 runners on base.
The loss puts the Hornets and Jets tied in the MIAA standings. The stakes are high for both teams in a big Friday afternoon matchup set for 3 PM at McCarthy Field.
