Emporia, KS- Men's and Women's Tennis traveled to Emporia to take on the Hornets.
Men's Tennis:
The Jets started down 1-0. Pedja Kolaric and Ali Mounir were the only Jets doubles to secure a win with a 6-4 victory.
Mounir stepped up to play in the #1 spot, his first match at the top spot this year. Mounir dropped his first set, and tried to complete the comeback in the second but fell just short, 6-7.
Kurt Suarez Bruckner took his win in three set at the #2 spot. Bruckner started down, losing his first set. Bruckner was able to rally back and take the next two sets with dominance, 6-4 and 6-1. This gave the Jets a lot of mometum heading into the next few matches.
Kolaric also won in three sets, he came out strong with a 6-3 win in the first set. Kolaric dropped his second set in a close set, 6-4 but was able to battle back to take the third set, 6-3.
Isfan Makhmudov brought in another win for the Jets. Makhmudov won flew through his first set with a 6-2 win. In the second set, Makhmudov had to push into extra points for the win, but pulled through winning 7-6.
Luca Penteado, in the #6 spot, was last on the court for the Jets. The Jets needed this win for the overall match win. Penteado came up clutch for the Jets. Penteado took the first set 6-2. The second set was a nail biter, Penteado started the set down 3-0 and was able to fight back to tie it 6-6, which forced a tiebreak. Penteado absolutely smashed the tiebreak with a 7-0 win. Allowing the Jets to secure the win.
The Jets took the victory, 4-3.
Women's Tennis:
The Jets were able to sweep in the doubles matches. Ani Zeikidze and Divya Murali in the #1 spot were the only doubles match that played indoors but they were able to adapt and take the win 6-2. In the #2 spot, Isabela Campos Bifano and Dana Issabayeva took the victory 6-4. Nicole Bono and Antonia Ramos flew by their opponents with a 6-2 win.
Issabayeva took the early lead 5-0 in the first set, but her opponent retired allowing Issabayeva the win by default.
Ani Zeikidze, in the #2 spot, took her win through 3 matches. Zeikidze pushed through in her first set to take the win, 7-5. In the second set, Zeikidze fell short but was able to rally in the third set to take the win 6-3. Zeikidze played the longest match of the day and ultimately clinched the win for the Jets.
Murali played in the #4 spot. Murali came out strong to steal the first set 6-1. The second set was forced into a tiebreak. Murali dug deep to take the tiebreaker 8-6 and the second set 7-6.
In the #6 spot, Amber Hands was able to add to the Jets lead. Hands won both of her sets 6-4.
The Jets dominated in a 5-2 win.
The Jets are back in action April 11th in Topeka, KS to take on the Ichabods. The Ichabods are currently ranked No.23 on the Women's side and No.35 on the Men's side.
